Places of interest

Ahlbeck is one of the three "imperial resorts" on Usedom, Germany's most easterly Baltic island, with neighbouring Heringsdorf and Bansin making up the trio. Ahlbeck is one of the oldest and finest of the seaside health resorts on this charming Baltic island with its landscape of contrasting scenery. Stroll along the promenades and piers or relax in the Baltic spas.

"Kaiser's Promenade"
One of the nicest walk on the island of Usedom is from Ahlbeck via Heringsdorf to Bansin along the well-maintained beach promenade which is about eight kilometres long. It is known as the "Kaiser's Promenade" because Kaiser Wilhelm II could often be seen strolling along it. On the way you pass magnificent villas, houses and other Wilhelminian-style buildings whose chequered histories mirror the changing fortunes of spa resorts. Neat flower beds and avenues of shady pines and maples contrast with the bright fronts of the town houses and hotels to form a pleasing scene.

Strolling above the waves
Along with its jetty, the pier is a well-known Ahlbeck landmark and is a central feature of the resort. Originally built to be merely a landing stage for pleasure steamers, it very soon became a popular place to stroll above the waves of the Baltic Sea. One of North Germany's finest structures, it was once the place to see and be seen and is now listed.

Usedom Baltic spa
This subtropical spa paradise with its ultra-modern treatment centre and gym is located between the seaside resorts of Ahlbeck and Heringsdorf. Its six pools, five of contain a proportion of iodine-rich natural saltwater, waterfall, cave slide, Roman-style steamroom, large Finnish sauna and other attractions are surrounded by exotic plants.
