Nature & greenery

The diverse countryside around Bad Salzuflen in the Teutoburg Forest is home to an incredible variety of flora and fauna. The spa gardens and country park are one of the largest areas of parkland in Germany. Leopoldsprudel spring was the first spa attraction to be established in Bad Salzuflen. The Saltwater Route runs for approx. 90 kilometres from the Wittekindsland region to the places associated with this "white gold".

Spa gardens and country park
An absolute must for nature enthusiasts, the 120-hectare spa gardens and country park has an extensive network of footpaths and runs along the banks of the river Salze. It is a true flowering paradise with the finest array of beautiful colours, plenty of grass and mature trees. The small lake has a hydrotherapy treatment facility with Kneipp arm and foot baths. This "green oasis of calm" has numerous benches where you can relax and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. The country park's glorious walking and cycling trails run past the large lake in the spa gardens and into the adjacent woodland.

Leopoldsprudel
Opened up in 1904 and still one of the town's signature attractions, the Leopoldsprudel spring was responsible for turning Bad Salzuflen into a thermal spa. The patron of the Leopoldsprudel was the last reigning Prince of Lippe, Leopold IV zur Lippe (1871-1949). Drilling work began in October 1905 and the desired results had been achieved by May 1906. The first carbonated thermal spring welled up from a depth of 534 metres at a temperature of 25°C, producing 1,500 to 2,000 litres per minute.

Saltwater Route
The Saltwater Cycle Route consists of several different sections, each clearly marked with the "Soleweg" logo, and links up to a number of national cycle trails. The southern circuit begins in Bad Salzuflen and runs in a southerly direction past Wüsten. Crossing the "Grosser Selber" nature conservation area, the Saltwater Route runs through the "rustic spas" of Bad Seebruch and Bad Senkelteich to Vlotho-Valdorf. The circuit covers 32.5 kilometres. Even though the route can be quite challenging in places, your efforts will be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
