Passing through - Anhalt-Wittenberg: Elbe biosphere reserve

Photo: Wandermagazin - An information centre in the Elbe biosphere reserve
Thousands and thousands of white-fronted geese, Whooper swans, cranes and Greylag geese fly in from Siberia and Scandinavia. They rest - and even overwinter completely, if not too frosty - in the unique and almost entirely preserved riverside landscape of the Elbe biosphere reserve.

The white stork, the industrious beaver and the elegant, well-travelled crane are very much at home in this realm of gardens, the Reformation and the Elbe riverbank meadows.
It is a great source of pride in the biosphere reserve that Elbe beavers are back and building their lodges.
