The North Sea
Mudflats: get to the bottom of things
Germany has something that puts a "normal" walk along the beach in the shade: a walk across the mudflats. The North Sea coast can boast the biggest contiguous area of mudflats in the world, including three national parks. There are lots of discoveries to be made here. The mudflats are an amazing natural feature with thousands of animal species and no fewer than three national parks. The seal banks in the Hamburg Wattenmeer National Park are a certain highlight, particularly for families. Another plus for people who enjoy the mudflats are the Hallig islands, small leftovers of once large marshy islands, which disappear beneath the sea several times each winter in the storm tides.
