The most important national German newspapers are the "Frankfurter Allgemeine", "Die Welt", the "Süddeutsche Zeitung", the "Frankfurter Rundschau" and the "Handelsblatt". They are extremely important in shaping public opinion, as are the political weeklies such as "Der Spiegel", "Focus", "Die Zeit" and "Stern". There is also a variety of local and regional daily and weekly newspapers. Of the tabloids, "Bild" has the highest circulation.

There are around 20,000 different press products in Germany in total.
