Munich's Hotspots and Gay Districts

Gärtnerplatz Square Fest, Munich; Copyright Deutsche Eiche
The city's gay and lesbian community welcomes visitors in the many bars, clubs and dance locations throughout the historic city center. The main gay area is in the Glockenbach quarter around Gärtnerplatz Square. The Café Nil attracts a sexy, young crowd and is a great place to begin or end your evenings on the town as they also serve a full menu, even after midnight.

The Selig attracts mostly gay men to its indoor and outdoor sidewalk areas. From here people head to the nearby NY.Club to dance away the second part of the night. Bau is a place where fetish and foam parties are not uncommon. The Pop As has been a local institution since 1979; it is a Pils lager bar where you will encounter a Levi-leather fraternity. Other popular men's bars include Edelheiss, Ochsengarten, Spike and Teddy Bar. The Moro is a bar and restaurant with an eclectic menu ranging from local favorites such as Schweinebraten (roast pork), to pastas and other international fare. The "Prosecco", a cozy neighborhood bar, is home to local drag divas and lots of Schlager (German oldies) music and is always jam packed on weekends.
