Accessible Transportation

Berlin's public transportation system is very convenient for people with physical disabilities to travel around on. 51 underground and 118 subway stations are equipped with elevators or ramps to provide easy access to the platforms. Furthermore, the public transportation authority of Berlin (BVG) has installed guidance stripes at over 40 subway stations. The surface of these stripes is corrugated to mark the edge of the platforms.
The new public busses are equipped with a ramp that can be lowered, in order to permit convenient access for wheelchairs and assistive devices. These ramps are placed at the center door of the bus and are used on over 100 bus routes.
