Even in the 19th century, Germany has played an important role in the art world of Modernity. With their oeuvres impressionists like Max Liebermann, the expressionists Nolde and Beckmann or Dadaist Max Ernst paved the way for the experiment of contemporary art, influenced by great innovators like Joseph Beuys and Gerhard Richter.
