Holocaust Memorial Berlin

Berlin is home to Germany's official holocaust memorial. Designed by German architect, Peter Eisenman, to recall a waving cornfield, The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is the country's central place for remembrance. 2,700 concrete pillars of differing heights are set in a grid pattern and cover nearly 19,000 m² of gently sloping ground. The memorial has a complementary Information Center underground providing further exhibition space giving background information on the victims and detailing other historical memorial sites. The Memorial is open to the public year round.
