Schwerin's market square in the old town is the centre of the "Mäkelborg" Christmas market, which has a stage with music, singing and dancing throughout the day. By contrast, the Butchers' Market offers great-smelling Polish specialities and a delightful festive programme. For the first three weekends of the Christmas market, towns twinned with Schwerin are invited to present their country's products and seasonal folk traditions.
