Marriage and family

Wedding ring of Katharina Luther, née Von Bora © Fotothek Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Leipzig
On 13 June 1525, Martin Luther married Katharina von Bora, a former nun. Family became an important part of his life and his wife took on the task of managing the former Augustinian monastery in which they lived. It was also home to their six children and a steady stream of relatives, students and employees. Their notes and letters Luther wrote to them reveal the private side of a man who called his wife "my darling" or "the morning star of Wittenberg" and even "my lord Katie".
