The Augsburg Confession

Veste Coburg
Luther's outlaw status in the eyes of the Empire greatly restricted his movements. He was unable to leave the Electorate of Saxony, so in 1530, Philipp Melanchthon wrote the Augsburg Confession for the Imperial Diet. It summarised the religious convictions of the German Protestant princes and still forms the basic creed for Lutheran churches all over the world. Martin Luther himself could only keep to up to date with proceedings from Coburg Fortress.
