Suggested excursions

Around 20 kilometres from Koblenz is Bad Ems, a spa town once frequented by tsars, kings and kaisers. It has the distinctly nostalgic feel of a historical international spa. Visitors to the spa in Bad Ems have been trying their luck at the town's casino since 1720. Nature enthusiasts will be in their element in the Lahn valley with its impressive highland scenery.
There are a number of castles and palaces along the stretch of the river between the old Roman town of Koblenz and the legendary Loreley. Koblenz is ideally situated for a romantic boat trip along the river, past Stolzenfels Castle, Lahneck Castle, the Königsstuhl, Marksburg and Boppard castles, and the famous Loreley rock in St. Goarshausen.
Marksburg Castle is the only clifftop castle on the Middle Rhine that is still intact, a text-book example. Dating mainly from the 14th century, this impressive fortress consists of a keep, several buildings, outer wards and ramparts sitting on top of a rocky cliff overlooking the small town of Braubach, around 12 kilometres from Koblenz.
