Fürstenberg
Fürstenberg porcelain factory

The Duke of Brunswick personally founded the Fürstenberg porcelain company within the walls of the Guelph palace, high above the river, to secure the town's economic future. Established in 1747, it is one of Germany's oldest porcelain factories, second only to Meissen.

Art, culture and fine porcelain
Behind the high, listed walls of Germany's second-oldest porcelain factory, a wonderful world awaits. Elegant tableware, entire scenes from fashionable court society recreated in porcelain, delightful and valuable exhibits in the manufactory's own museum, concerts, theatre performances, festivals and workshops successfully combine art, culture and porcelain.

Places of interest

This town in the Weserbergland hills has a very famous landmark: a hunting lodge once used by the Dukes of Brunswick. It was here, at this lodge built on the foundations of an old castle on a steep cliff overlooking the River Weser, that Duke Carl I first ordered the manufacture of porcelain, or 'white gold' in 1747. The area around Fürstenberg is also inviting, with lots to see and do.
