Eastern Bavaria
Eastern Bavaria - chill out and have fun

Neuburg Castle reflected in the Danube

Eastern Bavaria's long-established tradition of glassmaking can be discovered at its many glassworks, galleries and museums. The Bavarian Jura is an area of delightful hills, quiet rivers and streams. It has mills in idyllic locations, stately homes with hammer mills, unspoilt dry valleys and charming deciduous forests. Nature lovers appreciate the barren beauty of the Jura landscape with its sheer limestone cliffs - today excellent klettersteig terrain – dripstone caves, gently rounded peaks, hollows and valleys. Its idyllic river valleys are a paradise for walkers and cyclists.

Brewing beer is considered a very fine art in this region and there are excellent beers and culinary delights to suit all tastes. Just imagine yourself in a traditional Bavarian beer garden, enjoying the fresh air, a hearty snack and a nice, cold litre of beer. The rural, agricultural southern part of Lower Bavaria between the Danube and the Inn rivers is one of Germany's most attractive regions. It includes the Hallertau, the world's largest hop-growing area, and the Gäuboden, a broad plain of fertile land which is known as "Bavaria's granary".

The towns forming the four "cornerstones" of the region are Passau, Deggendorf, Landshut and Regensburg. They are all steeped in history, but at the same time youthful, vibrant and full of life. If you explore the countryside that lies in between, you will find meadows, forests and inviting villages with a historical feel.

Eastern Bavaria is full of wonders great and small. All you need do is be receptive and willing to follow the scent of romance. Get out and about in the idyllic countryside, walk along ancient trading routes, go horse riding with a guide along a river or historical bridlepath and let the region's many castles and palaces work their magic on you. There really is something for everyone. Your hosts in Eastern Bavaria have put together some wonderful holiday surprises - so come and see just what they have to offer.
