Amberg is located at the heart of the densely forested Jura mountain range in Bavaria and the town itself is full of greenery. The town has two extensive recreation grounds very close to the town centre - the former grounds of the Regional Garden Show and Mariahilfberg Park. This belt of green land around the centre of town has a large number of walking and cycling trails. This recreational area south of the old town was created for the 1996 Regional Garden Show. The park is popular with both locals and tourists alike and offers a variety of activities for all the family. For example, you can enjoy the many play areas and green open spaces as well as exploring the park on a boat ride down the Vils river.Mariahilfberg Park
Mariahilfberg Park lies in the north-east of the town and is a great place to go for walks and enjoy the wonderful views of Amberg and the surrounding countryside. At the heart of this splendid park is the pilgrimage church of Maria Hilf, the foremost place of pilgrimage in the Upper Palatinate region. A traditional religious mountain festival takes place here each summer.
