World heritage

Muskauer Park is an extraordinary example of a European country park, and broke completely new ground In terms of the development of artificial, Arcadian landscapes when it was created in the early 19th century. It was the forerunner of a new landscape design movement in towns, and influenced the development of "landscape architecture as a scientific discipline. Muskauer Park lies on the border between Germany (Saxony) and Poland and is a joint project between the two countries.
The 18-kilometre-long Elbe valley stretches from Übigau Palace in the north-west to Pillnitz stately home and grounds and the Elbe island in the south-east of the Saxon state capital, Dresden. The centre of Elbtal Valley culture is Dresden's well-known historical old quarter with the Church of Our Lady, Brühl Terrace, art college, Residenz palace and Semper Opera House. Wide Elbe meadows, historical village centres, attractive parks, magnificent palaces and steep vineyards have joined together to form the unique blend of city architecture and natural river landscape that has evolved over the centuries.
