Meatballs called buletten are a speciality of Berlin. They are made of minced meat with bread, onions and spices - every visitor should try them.

Everywhere else in Germany, doughnuts are called Berliner, but in Berlin deep-fried doughballs filled with jam are called pfannkuchen (pancakes).

A classic Berlin speciality is the currywurst, a sausage with curry sauce. There is a stall selling currywurst and chips on almost every street corner and this local delicacy even has a monument dedicated to it. Nowadays, Turkish doner kebabs are just as popular.

Berlin's speciality beer known as Berliner Weisse is renowned far beyond the city boundaries. Berliner Weisse is a fizzy, bottle-fermented beer brewed using a mixture of wheat and barley malt. On its own it has a slightly sour taste so people like to add a shot of woodruff or raspberry syrup and often drink it through a straw.
